I continue working on morphing shapes. For my “Stay Cool” animation (morphing the letters in “Stay” into “Cool”) I needed to morph “Y” into “L”.Rotation to the right seemed like a good way to go but I spent some time finding the best place for the first vertex on both letters. Again, some manual labour was required but I had fun with the shapes imaging a hand as the third shape (“transitional”) – a finger and a thumb shooting out as she shape swing back and gains momentum.
Note to myself: Having in mind the in-between, transitional shape makes it easier to come up with strong silhouettes for transitioning and much easier to imagine how the shape would change in anticipation or follow-through. Also, it makes the transition interesting by itself and more fun to watch.
